“Those who trust in the LORD are like Mount Zion, which cannot be moved, but abides forever.” (Ps. 125:1)

Re-reading the Psalms is always a comforting, hopeful and exciting exercise. Exciting in that who gets to be compared to a mountain! Really! Comparing us to a mountain at first may not sound too flattering but think about it a minute.

Mountains are “unmovable”…”unwavering”… “without compromise” from the rest of creation. Mountains represent the Church of God steadfast and militant in faith. Mountains are US! And if mountains had abilities they would trust in the one who created them to be such! And by virtue of being…they glorify the One who created them. For all creation glorifies the One true and glorious God our Father in heaven! But I digress, just a bit.

By the way this is NOT saying that when we “feel like” trusting in the LORD we are like Mount Zion.  It is NOT saying I don’t think this about myself so it isn’t true.  It IS saying emphatically…“Those who trust in the LORD are like Mount Zion, which cannot be moved, but abides forever!” How can God make such a bold statement…well, yeah…He is God and He can do that whenever He wants…but the next verse explains it for us as well when it says, “As the mountains surround Jerusalem, so the LORD surrounds His people.” What assurance we have in the Lord.

To borrow New Testament imagery, Jesus tells us that we are one with Him so when God the Father looks at us He sees absolute trust because He sees Jesus. John 17:20-23-“I do not ask for these only, but also for those who will believe in me through their word, that they may all be one, just as you, Father, are in me, and I in you, that they also may be in us, so that the world may believe that you have sent me. The glory that you have given me I have given to them, that they may be one even as we are one, I in them and you in me, that they may become perfectly one, so that the world may know that you sent me and loved them even as you loved me.” That should stop us in our tracks! We are surrounded by the Godhead with the Spirit living within us; so yes …we do trust in the LORD like Mount Zion. That trust is real and cannot be moved any more than God can change His nature. For this trust is the trust of being IN CHRIST and Christ and His Spirit being in the Godhead…if we would only believe it.

So we need to start living like the Scriptures define us…rather than doubting what God says about us…embrace the truth and begin striving to live in this definition. Oh, it isn’t easy.  Easy is usually not best…for there is no easy day on purpose. The more easy days the more complacent we become. And yes, this will take a life time and it won’t even be finished until we leave this life and are ushered into the next or Christ returns…but rather than being so concerned with how others sees us…it is much more reassuring to know how the One who loves us “best” sees us.  That is really all that matters in the end…when He sees us trusting Him, loving Him…with all our heart, mind, soul, and strength as Jesus trusted and loved Him; we WILL then experience the peace that came with our justification.  Amen!

God Bless y’all.
