Seeing Jesus Everywhere

“And He said to them, ‘O foolish ones, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken! Was it not necessary that the Christ should suffer these things and enter into his glory?’ And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, He interpreted to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning Himself.” Luke 24:25-27

They said to each other, ‘Did not our hearts burn within us while He talked to us on the road, while He opened to us the Scriptures?’” Luke 24:32

On this Easter Monday I bring to you my favorite post-resurrection appearance (and there were many- see 1 Cor. 15:5-8), and that is the visit He gave to these forlorn friends/disciples on the road to Emmaus. I have much in common with them. For one thing my eyes are all too often not able to see the Jesus right in front of my face in the actions that come from His providence. Also, I am too often “foolish and slow of heart.” So I am thankful for His persistent tenderness, limitless patience, steadfast love and forgiveness.

It is on days like this that I ask Him to keep doing for me what He did for our Emmaus Road brothers. To help me to see Him everywhere in the Scriptures, for He is the main point and primary figure in the entire Bible. He is our Substitute (I start this with a capital letter to personify it to make it more real). As Our/my Substitute I/we can trust that I/we have been delivered from the curse and sentence of death thus making That Friday “Good Friday”. He lived in our place; He died in our place, and rose victorious for our justification. Christ the Lord is risen …Alleluia!

I often pray, as David, that He would enable the Law, which I say I love, to constantly drive me to Him for He is the Law. The Law itself cannot save us but He who is the Law can and does! All because He fulfilled the demands of the law for us. We could sooner will the sun into existence than we could earn our salvation by our works. He, through the Spirit, keeps me/us free from every form of performance-based spirituality that only seeks to confuse the facts of His work.

Having risen from the dead, He is now making all things new, by first opening the scrolls of the end times. He is sovereign over every molecule and moment, every person and place. Faith, not fear, is the order of this day, this post-resurrection…post Easter day and every day.

Today, let’s look to Jesus, asking Him to once again ignite in our hearts a fire for Him like He did in the hearts of our Emmaus brothers. “Did not our hearts burn within us while He talked to us on the road, while He opened to us the Scriptures?”  Also, ask Him to keep showing us more of His glory and grace, that we might give Him more of the adoration and allegiance of which He alone is worthy.

Amen and Amen on this Easter Monday.

God Bless y’all today!

In His Grip,
Pastor Mike
